Ten Speed Racer

Terror on the Streets
(4.44 minutes)

I think we've been gypped.

Biography

Ten speed racer have been around since late 1999, and have played at various pubs and other venues. They have survived several different line up changes, and now consist of Gosia Basinska on drums and vocals, Brenton Bell and Scott Tomlinson on guitars and vocals, and Simon Sieradzki on bass. They have a home recorded demo which is of questionable sound quality circulating at the moment, and are in the process of recording some new material which will be both of a higher standard and more readily available.

The ten speed racer sound is made up of a "charming variety of pop and chiming instrumentals" that are as delicate as they are commanding.

ten speed racer have enjoyed playing with local bands such as Adam Said Galore, Mukaizake, Braving the Seabed, Cypher, Emmerson International, Stickfigures, The Spinsters and The Panics.

Ten Speed Racer are:

  • Gosia Basinska on drums and vocals
  • Brenton Bell and Scott Tomlinson on guitars and vocals
  • Simon Sieradzki on bass

Lyrics

terror on the streets

Terror on the streets, Terror on the streets
No food to eat
Terror on the streets, Terror on the streets
No food to eat
Safer than you think, Safer than you think
No accidents
Safer than you think, Safer than you think
No accidents

(I said goodbye)
(It doesn't really matter)

Thatís a friendly way, to break her heart
Thatís a friendly way, to break her heart
Öand you would go away
Öand you would go away
but you just canít seem to part
all the things that make you stay
and you would go away
and you would go away
but you just canít seem to part
all the things that make you stay

(I said goodbye)
(It doesn't really matter)
(You pull apart)
(Falling is there)
(The question stands)
(You start to shout)
(I become scared)
(Why do you berate me?)

(I said goodbye)
(Id doesn't really matter)
(You wonder why)
(It never really matters)

Reviews

Live Review
Friday 14th September 2001
at the Grosvenor Front Room

ten speed racer is an enigmatic four-piece that calculated innocence of Butterglory, the angst of Kathleen Hanna, the downright charming pop sensibilities of Sebadoh, and the intricacies of Sandpit. Brenton Bell and Scott Tomlinson share vocal duties on their well crafted indie tunes. Simple in verse and chorus, tonight they sometimes reached predictable climaxes as they thrashed it out with the best of them. Gosia Basinska's drumming is unfashionable in high held pelts, half paced timing and screeching vocals, yet it was so refreshing. Songs such as the RTR fave 'Sailors', 'Sylvia Likes Her Cars' and 'Terror On The Streets' were varied in delivery, song structure and content, yet they were all so ten speed racer. A solid set from a band that will further entice with repeated live viewings.
